BIO

Michael A. Triay is a New Orleans native.   He is a graduate of Loyola University School of Law and a member of the Moot Court Staff.  He brings over two decades of health care, environmental, insurance, construction, professional liability, and transportation litigation experience to the firm.  His specialties in health care include Orthopedics, Neurology, Internal Medicine, Emergency Medicine, Radiology, and Obstetrics and Gynecology.  His in-depth knowledge of medicine has resulted in successful defense of many matters in which medical causation was at issue.  He is a past lecturer at the annual Louisiana State University Medical School Foundation Emergency Medicine symposium.  Before joining the firm, he was in private practice and managed a significant Self-Insured Retention on behalf of an interstate trucking firm with over 400 power units where he successfully defended over 100 litigated cases including a six-week jury trial with claimed damages of over 40 million dollars.   At trial, he successfully cross-examined plaintiffs’ mechanical engineer and industrial hygienist under Daubert, and they were not accepted as expert witnesses by the court.  The trial resulted in a unanimous jury verdict finding the client free of liability after only 45 minutes of deliberation.  He was a liability and litigation consulting attorney for several national commercial insurers.  He is the past owner of Michael A. Triay, Professional Liability and Litigation Consultants.  His firm, on behalf of the State of Louisiana, Division of Administration, managed general liability and professional liability claims for Louisiana Superdome and serious injury and fatality claims for the Department of Transportation and Development. He investigated and managed medical malpractice claims at Charity Hospital New Orleans, LSU Health Shreveport, South Louisiana Medical Center, University Medical Center, and Earl K. Long Hospital on behalf of the State of Louisiana, Division of Administration and was a medical malpractice claim consultant for the State of Louisiana Patient’s Compensation Fund.
